In my role at Abbey Events I have been given the opportunity to look after a wide palette of responsibilities, which means it’s never boring! From one day to the next I could be booking 5-star hotels for a family, to contracting a set of guides or event professionals, to managing ticketing at a fashion show, to helping build a website or even a festival site!

Many roles in the events industry don’t always follow the rules when it comes to breaks, time off or overtime, but as Abbey Events is part of a much bigger company, they take their responsibility to their staff seriously. We are a close team, and there is an active social committee. For one month of the year around our big event, we do commit to pulling together as a team and delivering, which does mean some longer hours that month. I always feel proud of us when I see the city overtaken by one of our events, and we have much quieter times of the year also. It’s a hybrid role, so working from home a few days a week is offered to all employees.

Working at Abbey Events has given me the chance to take on a wide variety of responsibilities, which keeps the role engaging from week to week. I mainly manage the planning and coordination of visits, along with supporting the accommodation side when needed.

Although the events industry can sometimes be demanding, the reward is seeing everything come together: watching an event run smoothly, hearing positive feedback from guests, and knowing we played a part in making their experience memorable. At Abbey Events, I must say that feeling is even stronger because our team is incredibly capable and supportive, especially as the season gets busy. And when things slow down later in the year, we use the quieter months for planning and for visiting suppliers, hotels and venues, which gives us a better understanding of what they offer and helps us improve future programmes, and is overall a nice change of pace and keeps the work fresh throughout the year.

Working at Abbey Events has given me the opportunity to learn and develop my skills in the events industry due to the wide range of events I have had the pleasure of being a part of since I began working here, almost 3 years ago. I began my career here at the beginning of 2023 and one thing I can affirm is that no two days are the same! The best part about having a career in this industry is the people you meet along the way. From our loyal clients and trustworthy suppliers, I cannot wait to engage closely with the people who have helped make our events come to life and meet new people and businesses who share the same passion for this industry in 2026 and beyond.
